REMO is host to IV GODAE OceanView Science Team Meeting in Rio de Janeiro

REMO hosted the IV GODAE OceanView Science Team Meeting (IV GOVST) in Rio de Janeiro from November 5 to 9, 2012. The meeting took place at the Hotel Mirador, Copabana, and was attended by around 40 researchers from members and guests of the GOVST. The Prof. Mauro Cirano and Prof. Clemente Tanajura were the local organizers. The opening ceremony was attended by the illustrious presence of His Excellency. Captain-of-the-Sea Edson Carlos Furtado Magno, Director of the Brazilian Hydrography Center (CHM), who welcomed the participants and stressed the importance of the event for oceanography in Brazil. At this meeting, we presented the development stages and recent advances of ocean forecast systems members of GODAE OceanView and the plans to be implemented in 2013. The Working Groups also reported their activities and the next steps were defined. An overview of in situ and remote sensing systems was also offered. During the IV GOSVT the Argo system collected its millionth temperature and salinity profile. All presentations are available on the website www.godae-oceanview.org. The meeting was considered a success by the participants, who will meet again at the University of Maryland, USA, from November 4-8, 2013 at a large GODAE OceanView symposium.
